A Hotel With A Long Connection To Golf At Royal Lytham

Golf has long been part of life here.

Over the years, we have welcomed guests staying with us while attending some of Royal Lytham’s major championships, including:

• The Senior Open Championship 2019

• The Open Championship 2012

• The Women’s British Open 2018

Tournament weeks have become familiar occasions at The Cartford Inn, with many visitors choosing to stay just outside Lytham while remaining within easy reach of the course each day.

We are golf fans ourselves — something quietly reflected throughout the inn.

Displayed on the top floor is an original Open Championship poster from Royal Lytham 1996, signed by major champion Davis Love III.

During the 1996 Open, Davis ate every day at Patrick and Julie’s first restaurant, Jack’s. Before leaving, he signed the artwork and left a few words of encouragement — a small moment from those early days that has stayed with us ever since.

The framed poster remains on display today as a reminder of Royal Lytham’s place in golfing history and of the many visitors who return to Lancashire whenever championship golf comes back to the coast.

When major championships arrive at Royal Lytham, accommodation in Lytham and St Annes fills quickly and the town becomes considerably busier throughout the week.
