The annual Great Eccleston & District agricultural show took place over the weekend. With the Bowland fells as a backdrop there was the usually curious showcasing and judging of cattle, poultry and other animals. There was vintage farming machinery to be admired and (of course) the highly anticipated tractor pulling contest.
Food and drink featured prominently at the show. As usual, the food hall featured an astounding array of Lancashire's best produce and ingredients. Around the showground there were many categories of baking and cooking competitions being judged.
This year also saw the introduction of the 'food theatre' at the show. On both Saturday and Sunday regional and celebrity chefs, restauranteurs and producers came to demonstrate their cooking and talk about their wares to a frequently packed audience. As one of Lancashire's best pubs, The Cartford Inn was there on both days. Chris and Patrick entertained once again with extraordinary displays of seafood, salads making the most of the best local produce and wholesome hand-raised hot water crust pies. Below are some pictures of the show, the demonstrations and a couple of the recipes they made for you to try at home.
